A Divine Purpose, A Divine Roll

This week on the One by One podcast, we open up about personal experiences that have guided us through some very notable challenges. As practicing therapists and devoted disciples of Christ, we have worked with both men and women seeking to discover their divine purpose and potential. We combine professional insights with spiritual truths, creating a powerful framework for personal transformation.

In this enlightening episode, we tackle one of humanity's most pressing challenges: spiritual awakening and the discovery of divine purpose. Drawing from both ancient scripture and modern experience, we illuminate the path from spiritual slumber to sacred mission, offering profound insights into how we can recognize and fulfill our divine potential.

The Pattern of Spiritual Awakening

Most people today are walking through life in a state of spiritual dormancy, unaware of their potential and divine nature. This isn't just about religious disconnection - it's about being unconscious to the depth of who we really are and what we're capable of becoming. We have witnessed this pattern repeatedly as we work with clients and interact with others in our personal lives.

This awakening often begins with a jolt - a challenging life event, a spiritual experience, or a moment of divine intervention that forces us to question our current state. They serve as catalysts for growth and transformation.

“Awake, my sons; put on the armor of righteousness. Shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and come forth out of obscurity, and arise from the dust.”

Just as the Israelites needed their trials with the Midianites to awaken to their true identity, God still gives us similar wake-up calls to recognize our divine potential. These challenges, while difficult, serve as instruments of divine awakening, pushing us beyond our comfort zones and give us a deeper understanding of our purpose.

Breaking Free from Modern Distractions

In today's world, distractions keep us from recognizing and pursuing our divine purpose. These diversions come in many forms:

  • Social media scrolling

  • Entertainment consumption

  • Career ambitions

  • Material pursuits

  • Video games and sports

  • Even good things that become distracting

While these activities aren't inherently evil, they can become counterfeits for real purpose and meaningful living. The issue isn't the activities themselves but rather how they can prevent us from engaging with our true divine nature and purpose.

Many of us are content watching others live while we remain spectators in our own lives. This keeps us from actively engaging with our divine purpose and potential.

The Three-Steps to Purpose

The path to discovering and fulfilling our divine purpose follows a pattern of awakening, arising, and ascending. This appears throughout scripture and religious tradition, from Moses to Paul to modern-day disciples and prophets. It's not enough to simply wake up to who we are - we must take action and begin the ascent.

The awakening phase involves recognizing our divine nature and potential. Through challenges, spiritual experiences, or moments of divine intervention, we can come to know that God is invested in our lives, and we can come to know him and what he can help us accomplish.

The arising and ascending phases require active engagement with our divine nature. This isn't about accumulating wealth or achieving worldly success before serving God. It's about surrendering to divine guidance and allowing ourselves to be transformed through our relationship with the Divine.

There is a formula here, a powerful one. Seek first the Kingdom of God, AND THEN seek for riches. But only after you have obtained a hope in Christ. Far too often the world persuades us to reverse this order. We tell everyone, I am going to get a good paying career, I am going to become a millionaire, AND THEN I will be ready and able to build God’s kingdom.

Which roughly translates to,  “ I’ll do meaningful stuff when I am retired”

Divine Identity Over Worldly Achievement

There is a strong distinction between worldly achievement and divine identity. Many people fall into the trap of believing they need to achieve certain financial or societal benchmarks before they can fulfill their spiritual purpose.

This mindset often manifests in statements like, "Once I have enough money..." or "After I achieve success..." However, this completely misses the point of divine purpose. Our worth and ability to serve don't come from our achievements, knowledge, or resources - they come from our our willingness to be instruments in God's hands.

Like Gideon, who was chosen despite being the least in his father's house, our divine potential isn't determined by our worldly status or achievements. It's determined by our willingness to recognize our divine nature and act in accordance with God's will.

Recognizing Your Divine Moments

We implore you to consider the moments in your own life when you've felt a divine nudge or experienced a spiritual awakening. Don't dismiss these experiences as coincidence or imagination. They are sacred invitations to wake up, arise, and ascend to your divine purpose. Your past struggles, current limitations, and perceived inadequacies don't define your eternal identity or limit your divine potential.

Take time today to seek your own divine purpose through prayer and contemplation. This journey isn't about achieving worldly success before serving God - it's about surrendering to divine guidance and allowing yourself to be transformed through your relationship with the Divine.
